Nonetheless, most of Project Brutalitys features will show up in Doom II/Plutonia/TNT anyway. Well, read on to find out how I fixed the issue. So, you need to use a regular Brutal Doom. RAW Paste Data Ok, so, ever played Brutal Doom, but kept hearing that annoying "hmph" sound every time you jump? Or, basically, any time you move or run into anything? Yeah, it's pretty nervewracking. When your WAD combo is ready, select the base Doom IWAD you want to run it in on the right, then click. In the picture, you can see that we combined the Brutal Doom PK3 with Romero’s E1M8 WAD. Type "DSOOF" in there, and it should show up in the "Entries" section. Look over at the "Entries" section, and there should be a "Filter" section at the bottom. Open up the new Doom 2 WAD file we just created (the one you saved from the HxD program). You should rename the file to something like "DOOM2EditableVersion.WAD" or something like that, to distinguish it from the original version. Now run SLADE. Here, it should say "IWADg." You want to change the I to a P, so it says "PWADg."Then go to "File -> Save As" and save the file anywhere you want.
Pk3 file in SLADE, and go over to the "Entries" section again. It's already editable, so no worries there. So, open up the Brutal Doom. When you play that WAD file using GZDoom or Zandronum or whatever you use, the sounds aren't in there, so you obviously won't hear them. Now we need to do "sort of" the same thing with the Brutal Doom WAD, except we DO NOT have to edit it in the hex editor. Now go up to "File -> Save As" and save it as something like "DOOM2NoAnnoyingSounds.WAD" or something like that.Ok, so at this point, we've made a copy of the base Doom WAD file that doesn't have any of the annoying sounds in it. Now type "DPOOF" into the Filter.
That's that metallic-sounding bounce that you hear if you try to jump at some points. It's up to you though. Now go into the "FOOTSTEPS" folder. I find this sound to be extremely annoying, so I delete this file as well. That's the sound of those fleas that are flying around corpses in the game. Now go into the "WORLD" folder.NOTE: In this "WORLD" folder, there's a file called "FLEAS". Go into the "SOUNDS" folder.
Delete it if you like, but be warned, it will make it a little harder to know if you've found a secret door. Now, again, go back up to the "SOUNDS" main folder. It's the same sound as the "DSOOF", but I think it only applies to walls and doors. I think it's the sound that plays when you try to open a door or something that can't be opened. The second one is "DSNOWAY", which is OPTIONAL. The first one, and the one we definitely need to delete, is named "DSOOF". Here, there are two files of importance.
